The track is one of two new songs from the celebrated bassist, along with “I Wish I Didn’t Waste Your Time”
Thundercat is finally back with a pair of new songs, “Children of the Baked Potato” with Remi Wolf and “I Wish I Didn’t Waste Your Time.”
“Children of the Baked Potato” begins with a jumpy, but atmospheric intro, and quickly kicks into frantic gear, with Wolf’s vocals pairing perfectly with Thundercat’s blistering bass work. The song’s title is a reference to the famous L.A. jazz club, the Baked Potato, which was an influential space for both artists.
“She’s [Remi] a child of the Baked Potato like me,” Thundercat said in a statement. “She knew exactly what the song needed. And it was wild to watch her make it happen. The more I listen to the song, it’s clear there was no one better I could have picked.”
‘I Wish I Didn’t Waste Your Time” strikes an infectious, but more pensive groove with Thundercat crooning in his distinct, meditative falsetto: “I think I’m in too deep/Maybe it’s all my faults/Creeping up behind/I wish I didn’t waste your time.”
