Gracie Abrams Celebrates Taylor Swift’s Engagement: ‘Congratulations to Her’

Fans were camped out in line for Gracie Abrams‘ headlining concert in Mexico City when Taylor Swift announced her engagement to Travis Kelce. In a video captured outside the venue, they screamed and celebrated as if they were cheering for a close personal friend. Later that night, Abrams did the same.

“I feel like we should be saying a big congratulations to Taylor, who’s not here, but everybody, just congratulations to her,” Abrams said. The screams from the crowd rose before she could even get the first “congratulations” out. Both artists have written their fair share of heartbreak songs, which has led to some significant overlap within their hopeless romantic fanbases. In 2023 and 2024, Abrams joined Swift on the Eras Tour as an opening act and later collaborated with her on The Secret of Us.

“I feel like she’s here with us tonight because of this song,” Abrams said, introducing their collaboration “Us.” The record falls more within the hopeless category than the romantic one. “And if history’s clear, the flames always end up in ashes/And what seemed like fate, give it ten months and you’ll be past it/Babylon lovers hangin’ missed calls on the line/I gave you mine,” they sing.

The song echos the sentiment of Swift’s Tortured Poets Department deep cut “The Prophecy,” where she pleads, “Please/I’ve been on my knees/Change the prophecy/Don’t want money/Just someone who wants my company/Let it once be me/Who do I have to speak to/About if they can redo the prophecy?” Whoever it was, they listened and made the change.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift and Kelce wrote in a joint post on Instagram on Tuesday, Aug. 26. The musician and athlete began their relationship two years ago.
