Charli XCX Is a Medieval Musician in ‘100 Nights of Hero’ Teaser Trailer

The film, which premieres on Sept. 6, marks the singer’s silver screen debut

Charli XCX is trading in a microphone for a medieval string instrument in the new teaser trailer for the upcoming film 100 Nights of Hero. The first teaser for the film dropped on Tuesday, and though Charli is only seen for a few seconds, her appearance already has fans going wild. In the clip, she strums on the instrument and looks directly at the camera with a striking stare.

Directed by Julia Jackman, the historical fantasy film is set for a world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on Sept. 6. 100 Nights of Hero will then hit U.S. theaters on December 5, with no U.K. premiere date yet. Charli will star alongside a leading cast comprised of Maika Monroe, Emma Corrin, Nicholas Galitzine, Felicity Jones, and Richard E. Grant.

100 Nights of Hero is based on the popular graphic novel by Isabel Greenberg, which is loosely inspired by the Middle Eastern folktale collection One Thousand and One Nights, otherwise known as The Arabian Nights. The film follows an “innocent” bride (Monroe) who is visited by a “charming” house guest (Galitzine), who disrupts the castle’s dynamics, including that of dutiful maid Hero (Corrin), according to the tagline. But in the teaser, Galitzine’s Manfred is anything but charming as he holds up a stag’s head with bloodied arms.

The film marks Charli’s official silver screen debut. Earlier this year, the singer starred in the Prime Video series Overcompensating, playing a parodied version of herself. Since Charli took over the summer of 2024 with her inescapable album Brat, the singer has pivoted more and more to film and television. She has roles in the drama Erupcja, which she co-wrote, and in Victim and in Romain Gavras’ satire Sacrifice. All three films will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 4. According to Charli’s IMDB, the musician also has five upcoming acting projects, including thriller The Gallerist and mockumentary The Moment.

“I am really enjoying my acting journey,” Charli told Variety earlier this year. “I feel very, very inspired at the moment in that field… and I only ever want to do things that inspire me and make me feel energized.”
