Kylie Minogue reacts to Taylor Swift ‘Showgirl’ comparisons

Kylie Minogue has reacted to comparisons being made between her ‘Showgirl’ era tour, and Taylor Swift‘s upcoming album ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’.

Soon after the announcement, Kylie Minogue’s fans took to social media to share their own memories of Minogue’s iconic 2005 Showgirl: The Greatest Hits tour. That tour saw Minogue play her biggest tunes while dressed like a showgirl – the 2005 tour was cut short after the Australian legend was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Following a clean bill of health, Minogue resumed the Showgirl tour in 2006. It appears that Kylie’s own friends sent her a number of archival pictures from the Showgirl tour after Swift announced her album.

Minogue shared some of these images on social media, reflecting on her own run of burlesque-inspired shows: “When all your friends start sending you your Showgirl mems!!! 😳🥺🙃 Awww.”

She went on to preach about the “showgirl life” while giving Taylor props: “Showgirl life is ‘a thing’, multi dimensional and so much more than feathers and dazzle. 💖, respect and admiration to all my fellow hard working Showgirls 😘.”

As detailed on the New Heights podcast, Taylor Swift’s upcoming record will be about her life behind the scenes of her record-breaking Eras Tour – she also recorded the album in between shows on the European leg of the tour.

“What was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant. It just comes from like the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life,” she explained.

“What was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant. It just comes from like the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life. And so that effervescence has come through on this record. And like, as you said, bangers.”

‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ is scheduled for release on October 3.

Swift also shared that the upcoming record will differ from her previous album – 2024’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ – in that it will not come with additional tracks.
