Khalid Teases New Album With Upbeat Single ‘In Plain Sight’

The musician will drop his fourth LP, After the Sun Goes Down, in October

Khalid has shared an infectious new single, “In Plain Sight.” The song comes ahead of his next album, After the Sun Goes Down, which drops Oct. 10 via Right Hand Music Group/RCA Records.

A press release notes that both the single and the album explore “themes of love, self-discovery, openness, and a refreshed sense of freedom.” A dynamic music video for “In Plain Sight,” directed by 91 Rules, emphasizes these ideas, as Khalid breaks out of a glass cage to dance freely.

“This chapter is about taking my power back, living in my truth, and being able to express myself freely,” Khalid said in a statement. “I’m excited for my fans to experience this new era with me, not just musically, but personally.”

After the Sun Goes Down is Khalid’s fourth album and his first since last year’s Sincere. It’s also his first new effort since coming out as gay in November in a series of posts on X. “I got outted and the world still continues to turn,” Khalid wrote. “Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me 🖤.”

Sincere, which Khalid described as a “combination of life experiences,” arrived last summer. It featured the lovelorn single “Adore U,” produced by Digi and Justin Lucas, and “Please Don’t Fall in Love With Me.” That album dropped five years after Khalid’s second album, 2019’s Free Spirit, which makes After the Sun Goes Down a much quicker release. The musician has yet to share a track list or more details about the new LP.
