‘Folded’ Gives Kehlani First Top 10 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart

Kehlani achieves her first top 10 hit on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart as “Folded” rallies 14-9 on the list dated Aug. 16. The track surges after the release of its “(un)Folded” stripped-down version on July 30. (Both versions of the song are combined into one entry for data tracking and chart purposes.)

“Folded,” released on Atlantic Records, breaks the top 10 barrier on the multimetric Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart through a combination of 9.5 million official streams (up 19% week-over-week) 1,000 song downloads (up 11%) and 6.1 million audience impressions (up 56%) in the United States for the tracking week of Aug. 1-7, according to Luminate.

Thanks to those totals, “Folded” explodes 12-4 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart and debuts at No. 14 on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales. In the radio realm, the single ascends with a 24-17 jump on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart through a 30% week-over-week increase in plays at the format and a near-identical 24-18 climb on Rhythmic Airplay, where it improved 44% in weekly plays.

With “Folded,” singer-songwriter Kehlani claims their first Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs’ top 10 with her 18th entry. Her previous best was a No. 13 peak for “Gangsta” in September 2016. Between the pair, they reached the top 20 on three more occasions: via a feature on Cardi B’s “Ring” (No. 17 in 2018), “Can I,” featuring Tory Lanez (No. 20, 2020) and “Beautiful Lies,” with Yung Bleu (No. 20, 2022).

Elsewhere, “Folded” advances 8-6 on the Hot R&B Songs chart and 54-46 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. It also manages new milestones for Kehlani in the global arena, racing 102-55 on the Billboard Global 200, a new career best, and starts at No. 126 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, securing Kehlani’s first appearance as a lead artist on the international survey.
