Listen to The Temper Trap’s bold comeback single ‘Lucky Dimes’

The Temper Trap have shared a new comeback single called ‘Lucky Dimes’. Check it out below.

The new track was first teased by the indie giants on social media earlier this week (August 12), and marks their first new original material in nine years.

First, the Australian band hinted at a return by nodding to their lengthy hiatus and writing, “Did you miss us?”. They also shared a montage of them performing over the year, soundtracked by their breakthrough hit ‘Sweet Disposition’.

Later, the members shared a fuzzed-out clip, showing a blue screen that dissolved into flashes of the members playing, as a hazy beat dropped.

Now the song has dropped, sharing a bold new direction for The Temper Trap, and introducing a slightly heavier element into their signature indie sound.

“Someone told you go left/ Told you go right/ But no one ever knows/ Just how they want it,” they sing in the opening verse. “And you’re damned if you do/ And damned if you don’t/ ‘Cause no one ever knows/ Just how they want it”.

The song is written with Styalz Fuego, mixed by revered producer and engineer Spike Stent, and comes with a music video directed by Melbourne-based creative Joey Clough. Check it out below.

“Good to know that nine years after the last one, we still have something to say,: said frontman Dougy Mandagi. “It’s been an absolute pleasure creating this record and we can’t wait to share it with you, not to relive the past but to write the next chapter.”

It is the first of multiple new tracks on the way from The Temper Trap, and more details about the forthcoming releases are expected to be shared shortly.

The Temper Trap are best known for their aforementioned song ‘Sweet Deposition’ which was shared in 2008 as part of their debut album ‘Conditions’, and has long been considered an indie anthem.

Upon its release, it reached the Top 10 in charts in the UK, Ireland, and Belgium, and to date has accrued over 700,000,000 streams on Spotify.

As well as being extensively covered, the track’s popularity extended to TV and film, and cemented its place in pop culture after being used on the 500 Days of Summer soundtrack. Last year marked the 15th anniversary of the song, and in celebration, the band shared an acoustic rendition of the iconic hit and announced a limited edition vinyl reissue.

The band’s track ‘Love Lost’ was also sampled by the late rapper Mac Miller on his 2011 mixtape ‘I Love Life, Thank You’, with the track going on to appear on a posthumous re-release of the LP in 2022.

More recently, it emerged earlier this year that Taylor Swift once asked the band to handwrite the lyrics to the hit 2008 song for Harry Styles‘ birthday when the pair were in a relationship.
