Coming out via AWAL, Blink follows 2022’s The Silence in Between. The new project was recorded between Los Angeles, where the duo’s Tom Howie lives, and New York City, where the group’s other half, Jimmy Vallance, resides. The pair initially passed ideas and demos back and forth through Dropbox and Discord, and then met up in cities including Toronto and Vancouver, B.C., to expand on the music in the studio.
“The album’s like a question: How do you reconcile the desire to have a meaningful life with the realization that it’s gone in an instant, that you can’t hold on to things for too long?” Howie says in a statement on the new album’s thematic focus. “It wasn’t a conscious choice, but the way we made this record fits that idea, and maybe that’s why we’ve touched on it: It’s a phase in our lives where we’re doing everything in moments.”
Ahead of the new album’s release, the pair will play a flurry of dates including XS in Las Vegas, the North Carolina edition of Breakaway festival and Portola in San Francisco in September.
The pair’s debut album, 2015’s Days Gone By, spent 11 weeks on Top Dance/Electronic albums, with its 2018 followup Battle Lines spending a week on the chart. “Love Brand New” from The Silence In Between, spent 12 weeks on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, peaking at No. 29.
