Mariah Carey Just Learned Katy Perry Went to Space Months Ago & Has the Perfect Response

Mariah Carey might be a star, but she has no interest in going to space — even if Katy Perry recently did, not that Mimi had heard anything about it.

In a memorable moment from her interview with BBC Radio 2 posted Thursday (Aug. 7), Carey learns for the very first time that Perry was part of Blue Origin’s first-ever all-female trip past the Earth’s atmosphere, despite the event being all over the news in April. “Did she go to space? Where’d she go?” the Songbird Supreme asks after the interviewer brings it up.

“Into orbit and back?” Carey continues in her characteristically reserved manner. “She’s like, floating in the … And this is true? Wow. All right, Katy. I’m not mad at her, that’s pretty amazing.”

When asked whether she’d ever take a trip to the stars, Carey had a hilariously snarky response. “I think I’ve done enough,” she said simply.

Though Mimi missed it, Perry’s journey to space was widely publicized this past spring. She was one of several women who flew approximately 62 miles above Earth on a rocket trip organized by Jeff Bezos’ space tech company, riding the line between the atmosphere and outer space before coming back down after about 10 minutes.

The expedition was also widely criticized at the time, with some people calling it a waste of resources. Perry, however, described it as an empowering step forward for women, telling press shortly after she touched down, “It’s about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging … this is all for the benefit of Earth.”

Keeping her feet planted firmly on the ground, Carey is more focused on blasting off on a new album era as opposed to in a rocket ship. The star will release Here for It All in September, following singles “Type Dangerous” and “Sugar Sweet” featuring Kehlani and Shenseea.
