Jessie J “feeling a lot stronger” following unexpected hospitalisation – six weeks after successful breast cancer surgery

Jessie J has shared an update with fans after being unexpectedly hospitalised just six weeks after her successful breast cancer surgery.

The popstar announced she had been diagnosed with early breast cancer in June. At the time, she said that “cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding onto the word ‘early’. I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period. I just wanted to be open and share it.” Shortly afterwards, the singer underwent surgery on June 24.

This past Saturday (August 2), the ‘Price Tag’ singer revealed that she had been hospitalised after chest pains and symptoms pointed to a blood clot in her lungs. She wrote in an Instagram story, per Rolling Stone: “6 weeks post surgery and I was back in the same ward I was after my surgery. Not expected or planned. I had and still have symptoms that pointed towards a blood clot on the lung. IT IS NOT A BLOOD CLOT THANK GOD.”

However, the singer was diagnosed with an infection and fluids in her lungs but has since decided to rest at home: “Finding it hard to breathe in, but I discharged myself last night and will continue the investigation as an outpatient.”

On Sunday, she shared that her sense of humour was still in tact, quipping in a story: “I finally got a diagnosis of what’s been going on. Lots of people have been asking, apparently it’s called… Dramatic? I think that’s the spelling. My symptoms are the same and no idea what’s wrong yet. But my sarcasm and sense of humour are holding on.”

Monday saw Jessie J share a more detailed real-time update with her fans, assuring them that she’s “feeling a lot stronger”: “I think people think that I’m like hanging on by a thread… which in some moments has felt that way. Like two or three days ago when I woke up and I couldn’t breathe. I still have pain in my chest when I breathe, but it’s not as bad.”

She added that she is experiencing “very few other symptoms” currently, and she’s now hoping that it’s just “viral piss take.” However, she’s also cautious that it could be an “ongoing thing” as her immune system has been weakened from the cancer and being on her antibiotics treatment.

Jessie J underwent surgery a few days after her show at the Summertime Ball 2025, which took place on June 15 at Wembley Stadium. The singer had also played an intimate, acoustic show at the Union Chapel in London in June.

The singer is still scheduled to embark on her UK and European ‘No Secrets’ tour, this autumn which includes a night at the London Palladium. It will kick off on September 15 at Glasgow’s SEC Armadillo – get your tickets here.

The singer has previously been open about her health issues. In July last year, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), saying the diagnosis “made me rethink my whole life”.

Before then, she had experienced several health issues, including a miscarriage in late 2021, going deaf in one ear and being temporarily unable to walk properly in 2020, and suffering a stroke at the age of 18.
