Demi Lovato Speeds Into Her Electro-Pop Era With ‘Fast’

“This album is about letting inhibitions go,” Lovato’s album producer Zhone told Rolling Stone

Demi Lovato‘s stellar album rollout is on speed drive! On Friday, the pop singer released her single “Fast,” the first release off her long-awaited electro-pop album, expected later this year.

“I wanna go/I wanna go fast, I wanna go hard/I wanna go anywhere, anywhere you are,” Lovato repeats in the ear candy chorus. The Daniel Sachon-directed video features the singer walking slick city streets as she belts out the new track.

Last week, Rolling Stone broke the news that the singer was finishing a dance-pop record, executive-produced by Zhone. It’s her comeback to the genre after a pair of records (Holy Fvck and Revamped) completely in the rock space.

“It’s been so inspiring working with Demi and experiencing her journey of continued leveling up,” Zhone told Rolling Stone about the album. “She is such a master in the studio. This album is about letting inhibitions go, and we had so much fun making this music! It really comes across throughout.”

In the days leading up to the single, Lovato has been engaging with fans by leaning into internet memes about her from the past few years, including a fan meet-up at the Big Chill, the frozen yogurt shop she called out several years ago. At the time, she faced backlash for criticizing the small business, but now she teamed up with the froyo biz to play the new single for fans.

Lovato has been sharing snippets from the new single, which will kick off a new era for the star. She announced it earlier this week.

“Over the past few years, Demi has found love, joy, and newfound confidence, making the choice to approach life with much more lightness and fun,” a source told Rolling Stone. “She took this sentiment into the studio, which can be felt in every track.”
