The Bay Area rap queen also released her Twice-featuring EP, Hella Pressure, on Friday
With “Boffum,” Saweetie delivered a quintessential Saweetie track — but also a stunning video. On Friday, as she released EP Hella Pressure, the rap queen shared the visual for her Young Buck-sampling single.
“The duality of Saweetie is ‘Boffum.’ I’m this and I’m that,” Saweetie tells Rolling Stone of the track. “There’s just always such a discourse online of people wondering where I’m from, what do I really act like… this and that. But it’s just like what you see is really what you get.”
She adds: “I’m a very complex individual, and it’s because I’ve lived so many lives. So, because I’ve been placed in so many environments, it’s produced a woman who can do a lot of things organically, naturally.”
The sexy video cuts between clips that show Saweetie’s different sides — from getting her hair done in a small restroom to posing with an exotic doggo in front of a billion-dollar mansion. Other moments show her snacking on Hot Cheetos with the help of chopsticks, but also trying some butler-served oysters. She adds a taste of the Bay Area with clips of a dancer showing off his hyphy dance moves.
“My hair, nails? Both of ’em/Lady or a pimp? Both of ’em/You want the steak or the shrimp? Both of ’em,” she raps. “Rapper, athlete, I need both of ’em/Don’t you ask me, just get both of ’em.”
Saweetie says that “Boffum” has been one of her best-received tracks by her fans at live shows. “It’s made me really proud to get those reactions,” she says. “It feels right, and it feels like I’m doing something for the culture.”
