WWE’s Cody Rhodes Confirms Travis Scott Busted His Eardrum: ‘He Has a Big Old Hand’

Travis Scott left WWE superstar Cody Rhodes battered and bloodied on the mat of WWE’s Elimination Chamber event earlier this year, which saw Rhodes suffer a broken eardrum and other facial contusions following an open hand slap from the rapper.

Ahead of SummerSlam in New Jersey Aug. 2-3, Rhodes stopped by Hot Ones for the Thursday (July 31) episode, where he confirmed Scott busted his eardrum, but says he is still a fan of La Flame and hopes the rapper continues to be involved with WWE.

“I wish I could tell you it wasn’t true,” the wrestler joked. “Because I wanted anyone else to have the credit for that. So, you’ve got Rock in the ring. You’ve got Cena in the ring. But my man Travis, who, nothing but love for, he has a big old hand. So yes, it did bust my eardrum. If anyone ever wonders why I didn’t slap him, first hit him with a Cross Rhodes, he’s gracing us with his presence.”

Rhodes continued: “Wrestling right now, again we’re getting all these fun folks, but years ago it wasn’t that easy. And now here he comes. I want you to come back, man. Our house is your house. You know, maybe swing less, but our house is your house. So yeah, no, Travis did do that, that’s a fact.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Rhodes also explained the wrestling term of a “potato,” which is what took place with Travis Scott. “It’s when that person clocks you,” he said. “The kick goes through your jaw, you get kicked in [the face]. A potato often elicits a receipt.”

Rhodes cashed his “receipt” on La Flame at WrestleMania in April when the American Nightmare hit Scott with his signature Cross Rhodes after losing the title to John Cena.

An episode of Netflix’s WWE: Unreal showcased Scott hopping on FaceTime to check on Rhodes after Elimination Chamber. “I love you so much, man,” Scott told Rhodes. “That was way different than anything I’ve ever been in front of my whole life, I swear.”

Rhodes gets his rematch for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam this weekend when he’ll face Cena again at MetLife Stadium. Cardi B is set to host the event.
