Check out Del Water Gap’s atmospheric new single ‘How To Live’

Del Water Gap has shared a swirling new single called ‘How To Live’. Check it out below.

The track arrives today (July 29) via Mom & Pop, and launched as part of BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record with Jack Saunders.

It captures a swirling, atmospheric aura throughout, and sees the indie pop star – real name Samuel Holden Jaffe – explore the disorienting, sometimes overwhelming truth that we are all experiencing being alive.

Did I fog the lens / With crying eyes/ Did I get undressed /To drop the disguise / Trade common sin / For common sense / A life undone /In heaps of regret,” he sings in the spiritual opening verse.

Baby bird / My cult of one / You’re getting thin/ My prodigal son/ So I count my stones/ Before they’re laid / Like the architects of ancient Pompeii.

In the track, Del Water Gap works to dive into moral ambiguity, spirituality and the never-ending search for meaning that we all experience at various points through our lives. Check it out below.

The song follows on from Del Water Gap’s 2023 record ‘I Miss You Already + I Haven’t Left Yet’, which saw him team up with the likes of Clairo and Arlo Parks. That album was produced by Sammy Witte, who has previously worked with Harry Styles, and Ethan Gruska (Phoebe Bridgers).

The new single also comes on the heels of the artist’s time joining Niall Horan on the road as a support act, and after being locked in as a co-headliner for The Greek alongside The Japanese House. He has also made recent appearances at All Things Go, Electric Picnic, Newport Folk Festival and more.

Currently, Del Water Gap is on tour across the UK and Ireland and has a sold-out slot at London’s HERE at Outernet coming up on August 21. He will also play slots at Reading & Leeds festivals on August 22 and 24, before playing dates in Belfast and Dublin later that month.

Last year, the songwriter joined forces with Holly Humberstone for the dreamy collaborative track, ‘Cigarettes & Wine’ – an uplifting love song that explored the intimacy of a relationship.

“‘Cigarettes & Wine’ is an ode to a transatlantic long-distance relationship,” he said at the time. “It’s about finally getting to catch a moment with the person you’ve been missing the most, and the threads that keep you connected when you’re once again forced to say goodbye.”
