David Gilmour‘s 2024 Luck and Strange tour lasted a mere seven weeks and hit only two US cities, New York and Los Angeles, meaning the vast majority of his fans had no opportunity to experience it. That will change Sept. 17 when Gilmour’s new concert film Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome hits IMAX theaters worldwide. Ticket sales begin August 6.
For the Blu-Ray/DVD/CD release on October 17, Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome will be paired with a second film that takes a broader look at the tour, the Luck and Strange Concerts. It’s a compilation of 23 songs from throughout the entire Luck and Strange run. Check out a preview right here of “Sorrow” from Pink Floyd‘s 1987 LP A Momentary Lapse of Reason.
The package comes with a 24-page book. And for the true hardcores, there’s also a super deluxe box featuring 11 discs, a 120-page book, a sheet of stickers, two postcards, and a poster.
The Luck and Strange tour was Gilmour’s first time hitting the road since 2016. He came back with a largely new band and a set that focused heavily on solo songs and tunes from his tenure as the leader of Pink Floyd. Prior to the tour, he initially flirted with the idea of not playing anything from the Roger Waters years. He eventually changed his mind.
“One has to wake up to reality once in a while,” he told Rolling Stone in August 2024. “I think I will be doing one or two things from that time, but it just seems so long ago. I know people love them, and I love playing them. I’ll be doing ‘Wish You Were Here,’ of course, I will. And some of the things that started with me anyway.”
In addition to “Wish You Were,” the show also featured “Breathe (In the Air),” “Time,” “Fat Old Sun,” “The Great Gig in the Sky,” and “Comfortably Numb” from the Water era. While promoting the tour, he made it clear once again that any sort of onstage reunion with Waters is simply impossible at this point. “Absolutely not,” Gilmour told The Guardian. “I tend to steer clear of people who actively support genocidal and autocratic dictators like Putin and Maduro. Nothing would make me share a stage with someone who thinks such treatment of women and the LGBT community is OK.”

The Luck and Strange tour was also the first time Gilmour took his daughter Romany out on the road with him. She sang background vocals throughout much of the show, and took over on lead for a beautiful rendition of “Between Two Points” by the British indie pop duo the Montgolfier Brothers. The song is also a highlight of the Luck and Strange album.
“She must have heard the song once or twice in her life on our playlists, but she didn’t really know it at all,’ Gilmour told Rolling Stone. “I just gave her the lyrics on a piece of paper and stuck her in front of her mic. She’s a true pro with the microphone, has been since she was three. And basically, the vocal that you hear on that track is her first take all the way.”
