Tim Burton reveals he’s working on “something else” with Lady Gaga after filming ‘Wednesday’

Tim Burton has teased an upcoming project with Lady Gaga, saying they worked on “something else” filming for Wednesday.

During the Giffoni Film Festival, the director answered questions from fans in the audience after a screening of the second season of Wednesday, ahead of the first four episodes of season two dropping on August 6, with the remaining four to follow on September 3.

When asked what it was like working with the pop star on the upcoming series, Burton sang her praises and revealed they had another mystery project in the works.

“Honestly, she’s an amazing artist, and I just worked with her on Wednesday a little bit,” he said, before hinting at a future project. “And I’ve done something else with her.”

In November last year, it was announced that Gaga had been added to the cast of the hit Netflix series, which followed fans recreating Jenna Ortega’s viral dance from the show set to the singer’s 2011 track ‘Bloody Mary’ – a trend Gaga herself got in on.

It was later shared that she’d be playing Rosaline Rotwood, a legendary teacher at Nevermore Academy who specialises in the dark arts. Her character is expected to appear in the second half of the season in September.

While Burton didn’t specify what they were working on, he continued to praise the ‘Abracadabra‘ singer’s artistry at the Q&A. “She’s just an inspiring artist, so I feel very connected to her,” he continued.

“Just for me, it’s exciting to work with an artist that I respect and admire. I’m not a musician, I’m not a music person, but she’s a real artist, and that was very inspiring to me.”

Similarly, during an appearance at SXSW in March, Ortega opened up about working with Gaga: “It’s the best. She’s the best, definitely one of the most talented individuals I’ve ever worked with. It was just a really, really special environment to be there with her and Tim [Burton], two people that I respect and have been inspired by so much.”

“Then just finding out that she’s such a sweetheart and really kind and reserved, it’s very strange. I love that you never know what to expect from her, but you can always expect kindness and generosity,” Ortega continued.

As well as Gaga, new additions to the cast include Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton and Noah Taylor, while guest appearances will come from Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton and Haley Joel Osment.

In a four-star review of season one, NME wrote: “This is a reinvention, not a rewriting – and the core character survives intact. Wednesday’s acerbic wit, her sassy putdowns, are put to excellent use by Jenna Ortega, who is perfectly cast.

“She’s spoken in interviews about “challenges” and having to fight to protect her vision for the role, but any creative differences appear to have been worked out.”
