Alice Cooper says Donald Trump’s election victory was because “it got so ‘woke’ with the Biden people”

Alice Cooper has spoken out about Donald Trump’s return to office, and claimed that it happened because things got “so ‘woke’” on the Democrats’ side.

The shock rocker spoke out about the billionaire and Republican party leader returning to the White House during a new interview with The Times.

While the singer does not often speak out about political matters, he has gotten involved in the elections in a lighthearted way over the years – jokingly running for office at every election since 1972. This started as a way to promote his single ‘Elected’, which came out that year, and has continued every four years since.

In the latest interview, the ‘Poison’ singer shared why he thinks Trump was successful in his second campaign, and referred to the time he previously claimed that the POTUS cheated while they were playing golf (via Far Out).

“If any president who plays golf says he doesn’t cheat, don’t vote for them,” he told The Times. “I’m not talking about in competition; if you’re playing an everyday game among friends for bragging rights, then everyone cheats, right? But Trump was good. He can play.”

When asked about the extent of their friendship, he said, “We got along OK,” before sharing why he thought Trump won the election in 2024.

“Look, America has been having a slow-motion nervous breakdown for a while now. It got so ‘woke’ with the Biden people, even they thought it was crazy,” he said. “If a guy says to a coworker, ‘I like your new dress,’ that means he now gets fired? That’s crazy.”

“It got so over the top that whoever ran against the Democrats was going to win,” he added. “America got sick of the stupidness, and all I can say is, in a shooting war, you don’t want a poodle; you want a pitbull.”

While Cooper has not been outspoken in his political opinions throughout his career, he did face backlash in 2023 when he spoke to Stereogum and said being transgender could be “a fad”.

“[I’m] understanding that there are cases of transgender [but] I’m afraid that it’s also a fad, and I’m afraid there’s a lot of people claiming to be this just because they want to be that,” he said. “I find it wrong when you’ve got a six-year-old kid who has no idea. He just wants to play, and you’re confusing him telling him, ‘Yeah, you’re a boy, but you could be a girl if you want to be. ’”

The comments led to him having his collaboration with make-up brand Vampyre Cosmetics scrapped.

In other Alice Cooper news, the singer has said he hopes Oasis‘ current reunion tour lasts and he has offered some friendly advice to Liam and Noel Gallagher to keep them from “squabbling”. He has also reunited with his original Alice Cooper group to announce a one-off intimate show in London later this week.
