Yungblud releases Ozzy Osbourne-approved cover of Black Sabbath’s ‘Changes’ from Villa Park for charity: “The biggest moment of my entire life”

Yungblud has released his Ozzy Osbourne-approved cover of ‘Changes’, which he played at Black Sabbath’s final show.

The massive event took place at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5, and marked the final performance of the metal pioneers, with Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward – the founding members – performing together for the first time in two decades.

Yungblud was one of the many huge names on the stacked bill, including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Alice In Chains, Gojira, Anthrax, Guns N’ Roses, KoRn, Tool, and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler.

The show would go on to become the highest grossing charity concert of all time, bringing in just under £200million for good causes.

For his appearance, the Doncaster punk star, real name Dominic Harrison, appeared on the bill as part of ‘Supergroup A’ – forming a band with Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, II from Sleep Token on drums, and Adam Wakeman of Ozzy Osbourne’s band – and son of rock legend Rick – on keys.

They played a version of Black Sabbath’s ‘Changes’, the ballad from their 1972 album ‘Vol. 4’, which Yungblud dedicated to the late Liverpool star Jota, who tragically lost his life in a car accident in northern Spain on Thursday (July 3).

Now, Yungblud has announced that he will be officially sharing the live cover of the song as an official track.

With the release, all proceeds will be donated to Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children’s Hospice.

“This was hands down the biggest moment of my entire life. I got to stand on stage and honour one of my heroes, and the fact that it has touched so many is truly overwhelming,” Yungblud said.

“The best part about this release is that we can take such a monumental moment, immortalise it on tape, release it and donate all the money to such important causes in Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children’s Hospice. This is what Rock and roll is about. Stream it, buy it, add it to your playlist – let’s raise some fucking money.”

He also added that the performance received the seal of approval from the Black Sabbath frontman himself, who said: “He did an amazing job. I couldn’t have done it better myself.”

Check out the single above, and watch the video here when it drops at 5pm tonight (July 18).

The new cover from Yungblud comes just days after footage went viral of him gifting Osbourne a custom-made gold cross backstage at the show – returning the sentiment after Ozzy gave him a necklace as a good luck charm years ago.

“Thank you for everything. It’s a fucking honour,” he said, while the ‘Paranoid’ singer looked visibly moved by the gesture, and said that Yungblud could always reach out to him for anything he needs.

“The fucking music was enough,” Yungblud responded. “Thank you so much, honestly. You gave me an outlet. Everyone thought I was too fucking mad and that I was like ‘No, I’m like Ozzy’.”

In the clip, Ozzy also told Harrison that he was aware that he reached his third consecutive Number One album with ‘Idols’. “Good for you,” he said. “Conquer America next, then the world. Just keep going, never give in.”

The two have worked together before, both starring in the music video for ‘Funeral’. Back in 2022, Yungblud spoke to NME about what it was like to work with him, saying: “He’s so intelligent and so fucking beautiful. People are scared of him until they hear him speak,” he said. “He said that he saw a lot of himself in me. He said, ‘Never apologise for anything. They will understand you later. Time always tells.’”
