Dylan Minnette Hasn’t Quit Acting for Wallows: ‘I Never Felt That or Said That’

The musician and actor hasn’t appeared in a role since 2022, but says he would return for the right one

Dylan Minnette has spent more time on stage than on set over the past four years, but the musician isn’t closing the door on his acting career. During a recent appearance on the podcast Therapuss, the 28-year-old addressed rumors that his focus has shifted away from film and television to solely prioritize his band Wallows.

“I think there was a weird narrative that’s gone around that I quit acting, but I never felt that or said that,” Minnette said. “I feel like I’ve had a desire to do it again in some regard, and if the right thing comes along, then the right thing comes along.” His most recent roles include an appearance in Scream and the Hulu series The Dropout, both released in 2022.

Wallows guitarist Braeden Lemasters also comes from an acting background. Like Minnette, his latest television appearances have come from performances on the late-night circuit, including stops at The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Around 2010, Lemasters appeared on the TNT series Men of a Certain Age. Minnette and drummer Cole Preston also briefly featured on the show.

“They had wrote in a band for his character, and they cast me as a bandmate of his and then Cole as well,” Minnette said. “So, we all acted together on that show. It was funny. It was a good time. We were 15.”

Minnette’s breakout role on the Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why marked his most recent television stint. The show ran for four seasons and concluded in 2020. “It was a lot. It was a lot of emotions; you know, all the time. A lot of hours, but I think when I look back on it, I have nothing,” he said. “I feel like it’s a very heartwarming feeling to look back on it. Especially that first season that was definitely the most fulfilling experience I ever had shooting anything. It was very special and the longest amount of time I spent with a character and definitely very thankful for it, for sure.”
