Taken from the soundtrack of F1, Sheeran said he co-wrote the song with Mayer and songwriter Blake Slatkin in the caption of an Instagram post. Grohl and Pino Palladino, a session bassist, were “the final jigsaw pieces of the song.”

“i knew that i wanted to make a proper rock song for [the movie], a proper driving song. something you’d wanna turn up to the fullest amount whilst driving,” the post read.

“pure dream team for the genre of rock, and i really feel what we created fits the scene in the movie so well,” he continues. “i LOVE making songs for movies, ever since i did ‘I See Fire’ for The Hobbit. it really lets me as a movie fan, behind the curtain, help create the perfect song for a scene in a movie.”

The F1 film is due for release on June 25 in the UK, with releases in the US and Canada on June 27. It is directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Brad Pitt and Lewis Hamilton.

Pitt stars as former F1 driver Sonny Hayes, who returns to the sport to partner rookie team mate Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), at the fictional APXGP team.

The F1 soundtrack also features BLACKPINK‘s Rosé , Burna Boy, Tate McRae, RAYE, Dom Dolla, Madison Beer, Sexyy Redd and more.

Earlier this month, Sheeran shared a new single called ‘Sapphire’ – the latest preview of the singer-songwriter’s upcoming album ‘Play’, following ‘Azizam’ and ‘Old Phone’.

This comes after Sheeran promised in March that a new song called ‘Sapphire’ would be released in the coming months, and later said he planned to share new music every two or three weeks.

He recently revealed that ‘Play’ “was made as a direct response to the darkest period of my life”, before previewing a guitar-heavy collaboration with John Mayer and Dave Grohl called ‘Drive’.

In other news, Sheeran has announced three huge homecoming shows in Ipswich for this summer. Find any remaining tickets here.

Last month, he made a surprise appearance at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Liverpool after delivering an impromptu performance in Sheffield and playing an intimate set at Coachella 2025.
