Listen to Blondshell’s smouldering cover of Addison Rae’s ‘Diet Pepsi’

Blondshell has released her smouldering radio session cover of Addison Rae’s ‘Diet Pepsi’ – check it out below.

The Los Angeles musician – real name Sabrina Teitelbaum – released her second album ‘If You Asked For A Picture’ in May, and during the promotion, she dropped by Sirius XMU in her hometown and performed the track live.

The song, which was released in August 2024, was Rae’s breakout single and the first track to be released from her debut album ‘Addison’, which was released last week (June 6).

In Teitelbaum’s hands, it takes on a moody, smoky flavour, and as soon as she performed it on Sirius XMU, fans were clamouring for an official release. As of Friday (June 13), it is now streaming on all major music platforms. Listen here:

Speaking about the cover, Teitelbaum has said: “I love Addison’s music and this is my fave song of hers! It was on repeat for me when it came out so when we went in to do a Sirius XMU session it was between this and ‘You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go’ by Bob Dylan. Glad we went with this one.”

NME recently spoke to Teitelbaum about her new album. Explaining the transition away from her self-titled 2023 debut, she said: “I think I feel pretty masculine as a person, and my relationship with gender has been somewhat complicated. On the first album, I wanted to show people who I was for the first time, and so it was important for me to really hit you over the head with it so that you understood who I am and how I feel inside. With this album, I realised that the idea I had that softness would cancel out my masculinity isn’t true. Not every moment of my life is spent being angry.”

‘If You Asked For A Picture’ earned a four-star review from NME, which noted: “After the success of her first album, Teitelbaum was faced with a challenge. Its songs hit so hard because they felt like you had lived them just by listening. How could she capture that same emotional punch but without oversharing and putting every detail of her life up for public consumption? ‘If You Asked For A Picture’ is the answer, still as sharp and impactful but focused more on the spaces in between her stories than the plots themselves.”

‘Addison’ also scored four stars, with NME concluding: “If you claimed Addison Rae would become one of the biggest poptimist successes five years ago, you probably would have been pelted with phones playing He’s All That on Netflix. But ‘Addison’ is bold, expressive, and catchy as hell, and with little overt biography, it’s completely personal in its craftsmanship. You better start planning glittery, hot-pink dance parties with ‘Addison’ blasting in the background.”
