Sabrina Carpenter announces new album ‘Man’s Best Friend’

Sabrina Carpenter has announced details of her new album ‘Man’s Best Friend’, which will be released on August 29.

The album – Carpenter’s seventh in total and the follow-up to the hugely successful ‘Short N’ Sweet’ from 2024 – has already been previewed with the lead single ‘Manchild’, which was released last week (June 6).

Now, Carpenter has confirmed the album will be out on August 29, with the singer writing on social media that she “can’t wait for it to be yours”.

She has also shared the album’s artwork, which finds Carpenter in a kneeling position in front of a white curtain as she looks out at the camera, with a person standing next to her grabbing a handful of her hair. Another image shows a dog with a pendant hanging from its collar that has the album title engraved onto it. Check it out below.

‘Manchild’ sees Carpenter unapologetically call out the inept men in her life, with the video showing her hitchhiking across the US at sunset, casting them aside one by one. “Man-child, Why you always come a-running to me?/ Fuck my life, Won’t you let an innocent woman be?” she sings in the chorus.

Writing on Instagram about the song, she said: “It feels like a never-ending road trip in the summer! Hence why I wanted to give it to you now – so you can stick your head out the car window and scream it all summer long! Thank you always and forever for listening, and thank you men for testing me!!”

‘Short N’ Sweet’ was released last August and included the massive hit singles ‘Espresso’, ‘Please Please Please’, ‘Taste’ and ‘Bed Chem’. It was nominated for eight Grammys and won Best Pop Vocal Album, while catapulting Carpenter into global superstardom.

NME awarded the album four stars, noting: “Musically, Carpenter mostly finds that niche she’s been searching for, getting comfortable in a country-pop groove on the likes of ‘Coincidence’ and ‘Please Please Please’, or nailing frothy pop bops like ‘Taste’ and ‘Juno’. Her individuality occasionally feels a little diluted, the likes of ‘Good Graces’ and ‘Bed Chem’ moulded in Ariana Grande’s image. For the most part, though, who Sabrina Carpenter is has never been clearer – and her long-awaited, hard-earned climb to pop’s summit should continue with ease.”

Following its Grammy success, ‘Short N’ Sweet’ received a deluxe reissue in February with an additional feature from Dolly Parton.

Carpenter has also been on the road in recent weeks, headlining Primavera Sound in Barcelona last weekend in a set that saw her cover The Weather Girls’ ‘It’s Raining Men’. She is also set to headline two nights at BST Hyde Park in early July, where she’ll be joined by Clairo, Beabadoobee and Olivia Dean. Visit here for remaining tickets.

In other Sabrina Carpenter news, the singer has been linked to a possible role in Mamma Mia 3, and is set to return to Fortnite soon for an “epic dance party”.
