‘Rick And Morty’ continues Tori Amos obsession with joke in latest episode

Rick And Morty has continued its Tori Amos obsession with a new joke in the show’s latest episode.

The animated sitcom previously referenced the American singer-songwriter in season six episode ‘Night Family’, where Jerry bonds over his love of Amos with his Night Person.

The show’s latest episode, season eight’s ‘The Rick, The Mort & The Ugly’, premiered on June 8, and in it, Head of Morty Replication Rick goes into his farmhouse after it is trashed by Rick raiders.

On the floor, they have scrawled the words: “What grown man listens to Tori Amos?” in turds, before Rick picks up his copy of Amos’s debut album ‘Little Earthquakes’.

Viewers then see that the raiders have scrawled an image of a turd behind Amos on the cover, accompanied by the words: “Here’s some more shit for your ass SOYBOY!” We later hear the song ‘Little Earthquakes’ in the final fight scene.

Show co-creator Dan Harmon has previously spoken of his love for the singer, telling Vulture: “I played it on a loop, and she sang me to sleep — it was a lullaby filled with venom. She was Katy Perry shooting fireworks, but a lot cooler.”

While Rick And Morty is currently in its eighth season, the show was renewed all the way to season 12 last year, likely taking it through to 2029. The news was confirmed at New York Comic Con by executive producers Harmon and Scott Marder.

“From Season One, Rick and Morty set a new standard in adult animation and has shown no signs of stopping,” said Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim.

“Dan, Scott and the rest of the immensely talented team behind Rick and Morty are constantly outdoing themselves, and I’ll be joining the millions of fans around the world in looking forward to more adventures in the years to come.”

Meanwhile, last year a spin-off series called Rick and Morty: The Anime premiered on Adult Swim, which is directed by Tower Of God‘s Takashi Sano.
