The pop star is due to release her ninth studio record next Friday (May 30) via Columbia, following on from 2023’s ‘Endless Summer Vacation’, and has already shared the title track as well as singles ‘Prelude’, ‘End Of The World’ and ‘More To Lose‘.

Alongside the album news, the ‘Flowers’ singer also announced a visual film, Something Beautiful – a film pop opera set to feature 13 original new songs from her upcoming album.

It’s set to be screened across North America on June 12 before coming to the UK and the rest of the world on June 27, and you can find tickets here. The theatrical release will come a week after the film’s world premiere on June 6 at New York City’s Tribeca Festival.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday (May 22), the singer reflecting on filming for it, and revealed she had “caught” something after writhing around on the famous star-studded pavement.

Because her team didn’t have the budget to reserve the iconic landmark, she decided to film on the pavement late at night when nobody would be there, getting a “brutal” infection in the process.

“I caught something,” she confirmed to host Kimmel. “I filmed this video in October, and by November on Thanksgiving, I was put in ICU for a moment.” She went on the explain that her stop in the intensive care unit was not relative to her injury, but rather because the hospital was full with Thanksgiving-related visitors.

“My leg began to disintegrate … around the kneecap area,” she continued. “And then the doctor goes, ‘Do you have any idea why you would have such a brutal infection on your kneecap?’”

She then said she got a mental image of herself dancing on the ground for the film, admitting she “had to tell him”, adding that a surgeon had said: “Yuck” after seeing the state of her knee.

“They open up cadavers,” Cyrus said. “They see inside the guts of humans, and they’re looking at me, telling me I’m disgusting. And they do brain operations!”

“With this movie, I had a big dream and a small budget,” she joked. “Have you been to the Walk of Fame in the middle of the night?” she asked Kimmel. “I thought it was my last day.”

As far as other thwarted promotion plans for her album, she recently revealed that Harrison Ford talked her out of “performing in the forest” after saying it looked expensive.

Cyrus is credited as an executive producer on the LP, alongside Shawn Everett (Kacey Musgraves, Alabama Shakes). She previously suggested that the “bold” album would be inspired by Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’.
