Chance the Rapper, Kaytranada Highlight Montauk’s Surf Lodge Summer Concert Series

No matter how you get there — early-morning LIRR, stuck on Montauk highway traffic, or affluent aerial transport (if you’re doing the latter, let’s be friends) — it’s become a summer tradition for more musically-inclined New Yorkers to descend upon the Surf Lodge. Once there, Montauk townies, preppy uptowners, humble fans of tech-house, scene kids, and everything in between get treated to sets from the biggest names in dance, rap, and pop. Just ahead of the long weekend that unofficially kicks off the summer, Rolling Stone can exclusively reveal the lineup for the part-music venue, part-boutique hotel.

Kaytranada will play a Memorial Day weekend set alongside Chloe Caillet on May 24. Chance the Rapper comes through a couple of weeks later on June 7, Daya of “Don’t Let Me Down” fame brings her pop hits on June 20, and longtime friends of the Surf Lodge, Sofi Tukker, highlight a July 4th weekend with more surprises in store.

Last summer was a busy one for the Surf Lodge. On one weekend, Tinashe came through to perform the viral “Nasty” before Erykah Badu hopped up on the decks to play Drake and Too Short hits. During the July 4th weekend, tech house hitmaker John Summit popped up at Alesso’s show at the Surf Lodge for an epic b2b set.

It’s not just musicians: the venue had made a habit of letting stars of the silver screen flaunt some of their passion projects. Last summer, Jason Momoa’s band ÖOF TATATÁ (in which he plays bass) performed in a downpour, and Kate Hudson took the stage to perform songs from her debut album.

“I have my ear out for new artists too; we have a history of showcasing up-and-comers at the Surf Lodge, many of whom go on to win Grammys,” Jayma Cardoso, who founded the Surf Lodge in 2008, told Rolling Stone in 2022.

Opening the summer lineup on Friday, May 23, is London-based tech-house star Michael Bibi. Last year at Coachella, Bibi played his first proper set since announcing he was in remission from CNS lymphoma, a rare form of brain and spinal cancer. Since his diagnosis, Bibi has gone all-in on charity work, including teaming up with the Montauk venue for the duration of the summer to help raise money for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

“His influence on the global music scene is undeniable, but it’s his strength and vulnerability in sharing his personal journey that truly moves us,” Cardoso says.

More names are expected to be announced, as well as some big surprises the venue has in store for music fans and Hamptonites. Tickets for each week go on sale here.
