With a new album, The Clearing, coming Aug. 29, Wolf Alice intend to hit the road late this summer for a run of North American shows that stretch into the fall. Full details are on the band’s website.
The announcement comes a day after the release of a new music video for the album’s “Bloom Baby Bloom.” “Did I have to make you sit on your hands,” frontwoman Ellie Roswell croons over a bouncy piano line, “Fucking baby, baby man.” Then it explodes in the chorus: “I’m so sick and tired of trying to play it hard,” she sings.
“I wanted a rock song, to focus on the performance element of a rock song and sing like Axl Rose, but to be singing a song about being a woman,” frontwoman Ellie Rowsell said in a statement. “I’ve used the guitar as a shield in the past, playing it has perhaps been some way to reject the ‘girl singer in band’ trope, but I wanted to focus on my voice as a rock instrument, so it’s been freeing to put the guitar down and reach a point where I don’t feel like I need to prove that I’m a musician.”
The U.K.-based band recorded the album with producer Greg Kurstin in the London district known as Seven Sisters last year. The record follows up their 2021 LP, Blue Weekend, and an EP that arrived the following year, Blue Lullaby. To promote that album, he group supported Harry Styles in 2022; Roswell sang their song “No Hard Feelings” with Styles at the last date of the tour.
