Miley Cyrus has announced a visual film, Something Beautiful – and it’ll be playing in UK cinemas for one night only.

The film pop opera will feature 13 original new songs from Cyrus’ upcoming album of the same name, out on May 30. The songs have been mixed by Alan Meyerson for theatrical release.

It’s set to be screened across North America on June 12 before coming to the UK and the rest of the world on June 27. Tickets will go on sale next Thursday (May 22) here. The theatrical release will come a week after the film’s world premiere on June 6 at New York City’s Tribeca Festival.

Cyrus produced the film with XYZ Films and Panos Cosmatos in collaboration with Sony Music Vision, Columbia Records and Live Nation and directed it alongside Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter.

She said upon making the announcement: “Something Beautiful is my dream project come true – fashion, film, and original music coexisting in harmony. My co-creators are all geniuses in their own right: from the masters of sound, Shawn Everett and Alan Meyerson, to one of cinema’s most unique directors, Panos Cosmatos serving as a producer. Each collaborator has used their expertise to make this fantasy a reality.”

The singer and actor first shared details of the album in a Harper’s Bazaar interview in November, in which she described it as a visual album inspired by Pink Floyd’s seminal 1979 release ‘The Wall’ that centres around the idea of healing.

She formally announced the album on March 24 before sharing the trailer for the visual film the next day, and premiering the visual video for ‘Prelude’ and music video for title track ‘Something Beautiful’ a week later. The album’s official lead single, ‘End Of The World’, was released on April 3.

On May 6, Spotify hosted an album listening and film screening event, billed as ‘An Evening with Miley Cyrus’, for a limited number of fans in NYC, and a few days later, she shared another single, ‘More To Lose’.

The tracks marked Cyrus’ first new music since the single ‘Beautiful That Way’, which came out in December for Pamela Anderson’s The Last Showgirl. She also collaborated with Beyoncé on ‘II Most Wanted’ from the latter’s album ‘Cowboy Carter’ last year, but her latest singles are her first solo material since her own 2023 album ‘Endless Summer Vacation’, which topped the charts in over 30 countries.

In a four-star review, NME called it “a potent reclamation of power” and added: “‘Endless Summer Vacation’ certainly feels like an accurate reflection of who she is as an artist – and a person – in 2023. She’s still working out what she wants from a relationship. She knows she can pull off different musical styles even when she’s not trying to make bangers (or ‘Bangerz’). And when she sings “But don’t forget, baby I’m a wildcard” on the third-to-last song, you’ll definitely believe her.”
