Jillian Shriner, wife of Weezer bassist Scott, pleads not guilty to shooting charges

Jillian Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a shooting that left her wounded outside of her home in Los Angeles, California last month.

As reported by the Los Angeles Times, Shriner pleaded not guilty to felony charges yesterday (Tuesday May 13) for willful discharge of a firearm in a gross negligent manner, and assault of a person with a semiautomatic firearm.

It is said that prosecutors are also seeking a firearms sentencing enhancement. If convicted on all counts, she faces up to 19 years in state prison.

Shriner, who is an author who publishes under the pen name Jillian Lauren, was taken into custody on April 8 after sustaining a non-life-threatening gunshot wound from a police officer.

A statement from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) later revealed that they had been pursuing an unrelated hit-and-run car chase when one of the suspects tried to enter Shriner’s property in Eagle Rock.

Shriner is said to have fired at the suspect and then pointed her gun at officers and refused to lower it when asked. An “officer-involved shooting” then occurred, with Shriner being shot in the shoulder by a member of the police.

After fleeing, she was taken to the hospital for treatment and then into custody. Shriner was subsequently “booked for attempted murder”, the LAPD confirmed. A 9mm handgun was subsequently recovered from her house.

The New York Times best-selling author was then released on $1million bail (£749,092). Shriner is due to appear in court again on Wednesday June 18, for a preliminary hearing on whether the case against her will proceed.

Bodycam and security footage was released by the LAPD last month. The video appears to show Shriner racking and firing a gun while standing in her back garden.

“The officers gave Shriner repeated verbal commands to drop the handgun, however, she did not comply,” LAPD Commander Alex Chogyoji said in a case overview video. “Moments later, Shriner racked the handgun, pointed it at the officers and fired, resulting in an officer involved shooting.”

Shortly after the incident, Weezer played a set at Coachella 2025, having been added to the line-up last minute the week prior. They did not address the incident during their performance.

However, bassist Scott Shriner did comment on the situation ahead of the performance, while confirming that Weezer would still be playing at Coachella. “She’s alright, thank you for asking,” the musician said, and declined to go into further details about his wife’s situation. “See you at Coachella,” he added.
