According to a Deadline report, the Queen of Pop is teaming up with Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy for the limited series, which is believed to be in early development at Netflix.

Deadline reports that the limited series is being executive produced by Levy, while the extent of Madonna’s involvement has yet to be confirmed. The screenplay for Netflix’s limited series is seemingly being worked on from scratch, suggesting that it is an entirely separate project from the singer’s long-gestating biopic for Universal.

Actor Julia Garner – who was tapped to star as a young Madonna for the now-uncertain film – is reportedly still attached to the Netflix limited series.

The film was first announced back in 2020, with Madonna directing and co-writing the film herself, with Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody. Amy Pascal (GhostbustersLittle Women) was set to serve as a producer. Inventing Anna and Ozark actor Julia Garner was later cast as a young Madonna, before the film was scrapped in early 2023 due to the singer’s 40th anniversary ‘Celebration’ tour.

In July last year, it was reported that the film was back in the works, only for Madonna to air her grievances on its production in November, revealing that producers were looking for her to “downsize” the film into a series.

In other Madonna-related news, Scissor Sisters‘ Jake Shears last month hinted that a duet between Madge and Elton John might be on the way. It comes after the musical icons “finally buried the hatchet” over their long-running feud earlier in April, after Madonna confronted John backstage during his recent appearance on Saturday Night Live.
