Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry Reunite for Benefit Concert

Short set, supported by an all-star band, helped raise money for Tyler’s charity, Janie’s Fund

Aerosmith may have said farewell for a final time at a Long Island concert in September 2023, but that won’t stop Steven Tyler and Joe Perry from reuniting for a good cause. The so-called “Toxic Twins” shared a stage together again on Wednesday at a San Francisco benefit concert to raise money for Janie’s Fund, the nonprofit organization Tyler founded to help vulnerable women (like the one he sang about in “Janie’s Got a Gun.”)

With help from an all-star band, the duo performed five of their greatest hits (but not “Janie’s”) and a couple of cover songs: “Toys in the Attic,” “Same Old Song and Dance,” “Sweet Emotion,” “Dream On,” “Walk This Way,” Tiny Bradshaw via Johnny Burnette’s “Train Kept a-Rollin’,” and the Beatles’ “Come Together,” according to Aerosmith’s Facebook story. Clips of “Dream On” and “Come Together” show that they still sound pretty great live.

The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson, Cheap Trick’s Robin Zander, former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum, and Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt were among the other musicians who performed at the event.

Aerosmith announced their retirement, citing damage to Tyler’s vocal cords as the cause, in August 2024. “Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible,” the band said in a statement. “We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage.” Tyler unretired this past February at another charity event, a Grammy Awards watch party that also benefitted Janie’s Fund. Tyler is also set to make an appearance at Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s farewell concert in July, according to The Guardian.
