Gang Of Four bring out Belly’s Tanya Donelly and Mission Of Burma’s Roger Miller at farewell shows

Gang Of Four have kicked off their latest run of tour dates, and already the shows have seen surprise appearances from members of Belly and Mission Of Burma. Check out the footage below.

The string of shows comes as part of the band’s ongoing 2025 farewell tour, which kicked off on Sunday night (April 20) at the Crystal Ballroom in Boston.

Making their final live shows ones to remember, the band broke out their iconic 1979 album ‘Entertainment!’ in full as well as fan favourites. They also caught fans off guard by bringing out Belly’s Tanya Donnelly as a special guest. They performed together for a rendition of ‘We Live As We Dream, Alone’, and were also joined by Ts Burnham – the daughter of Gang Of Four drummer Hugo Burnham.

They went on to perform ‘I Love A Man In A Uniform’ together too.

The surprises continued later in the show too, when Mission Of Burma’s Roger Miller also took to the stage as an unexpected guest, and treated the audience to a joint performance of ‘What We All Want’.

Check out footage from the show below.

As part of the final tour dates, the band is joined by Gail Greenwood (L7, Belly) as bassist, and Ted Leo on guitar. The inclusion of Greenwood into the line-up comes after the death of bassist Dave Allen. He died a few weeks ago aged 69, and news of his passing comes after it was confirmed that he had been living with early-onset dementia for several years.

“It is with broken yet full hearts that we share the news that Dave Allen, our old music partner, friend, and brilliant musician, died on Saturday morning. He was at home with his family. Dave had endured the early-onset of mixed dementia for some years which has been a heartbreaking time for his wife Paddy, his children, and close friends. Our love and thoughts are with them,” read the band’s eulogy.

“We talked and laughed for hours, sharing rich and vivid memories of good times together. Adventures, careers in music, raising families, our interwoven lives spanning half a century. We’ve been so very lucky to have had the Ace of Bass in our lives,” they added. “We know that Dave would have wanted nothing more than to step onstage with us again in Portland on our farewell US tour. But it’s now a bridge too far.”

Gang Of Four’s tour will continue throughout this month with stops in Montreal, Toronto, New York, Washington, Atlanta and more. It will then progress into next month, where other dates include shows in Nashville, Dallas, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Denver, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and more. UK and Ireland dates are planned for this summer too, and include a slot at Kentish Town in London on June 24, as well as shows in Dublin and Galway later that month. Visit here for those tickets.
