Jack Black’s ‘Minecraft’ song becomes shortest hit single of all time, while Those Damn Crows top albums chart

Jack Black has scored the shortest ever UK Top 40 single with ‘Steve’s Lava Chicken’ from A Minecraft Movie.

The song, which clocks in at just 34 seconds long, sees Black’s lead character Steve singing about roasting a chicken using molten lava and its absurd and hooky nature has clearly been a hit with fans of the film.

The viral track has landed at Number 21 on April 18’s chart, and it takes the record off Jonny Trunk and Wisbey’s 36-second hit ‘The Ladies’ Bras’, which peaked at Number 27 in 2007.

It also becomes Black’s highest ever charting single in the UK, overtaking ‘Peaches’ from The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, which made it to Number 27. Tenacious D have also made the charts in the past with ‘POD’ (24) and ‘Tribute’ (84).

Reacting to the news, Black has said: “I just heard that ‘Steve’s Lava Chicken’ has cracked the UK Top 40. I want to send big love to all the Minecraft fans for getting us up there – it’s insane! Love you!”

The top of the chart sees Alex Warren’s ‘Ordinary’ become the longest-running Number One of 2025, taking a fifth week at the summit and overtaking Lola Young’s ‘Messy’ with four weeks.

On the Albums Chart, Welsh band Those Damn Crows earn their first ever Number One with their fourth album ‘God Shaped Hole’. Speaking to the Official Charts Company, they said: “This is unbelievable! It’s not just a thank you for this specific moment. It’s 10 years of sticking with us, all reaching one goal, and we did it; Number One! Thank you so much, it’s absolutely insane.”

“We’ve been working so hard for so many years, this is a huge reward. We’re not going anywhere, man!”

It beat Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Short N’ Sweet’ into second place, with Oasis compilation ‘Time Flies – 1994-2009′ coming in at third. Bon Iver’s ‘SABLE fABLE’ debuts at Number Four.

A Minecraft Movie has been a giant box office hit in cinemas, clocking $552million worldwide already and becoming the highest grossing film of 2025 so far. It has also provoked chaos and consternation in cinemas, with audiences throwing popcorn and shouting out loud, which Black has urged fans of the film not to do.
