The singer embarked on the first all-female space mission in six decades yesterday (April 14), organised by Jeff Bezos. During their voyage, Perry sang Louis Armstrong’s ‘What A Wonderful World’ and revealed the setlist for her upcoming ‘Lifetimes’ tour.

She was later seen holding a daisy to the sky and kissing the ground upon returning from space.

Now, the Internet has reacted to her space trip, with some X/Twitter users resonating with Perry’s dramatic return to Earth:

Meanwhile, other users expressed bemusement at the unexpectedly short trip, with rapper Azealia Banks chiming in:

However, Perry’s trip has also sparked some controversy online. One user noted how although the trip was supposed to “inspire women”, “the women who already worked at NASA are *checks notes* getting fired and getting their bios removed from the site”.

Another user remarked that “if Jeff Bezos can send Katy Perry into space, he can pay a wealth tax so every American has debt-free healthcare,” whilst one person called it “wealth tourism”: “Can we quit doing these vanity space flights? All to send celebs to space to influence more rich ppl to pay to do so. These accomplish nothing.”

Meanwhile, popular fast food chain Wendy’s simply commented: “Can we send her back”.

Perry has also garnered criticism from other entertainers for taking the space flight, with actress Olivia Munn branding Perry “gluttonous”.

“What are they doing? I know this probably isn’t the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now,” she said (via Billboard). “I know this is probably obnoxious, but like, it’s so much money to go to space, and there are a lot of people who can’t even afford eggs.”

“What’s the point? Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it’s a bit gluttonous,” she continued. “Space exploration was to further our knowledge and to help mankind. What are they gonna do up there that has made it better for us down here?”

Meanwhile, Emily Ratjakowski said she was similarly “disgusted” by the space flight in a TikTok video: “That space mission this morning? That’s end time shit. Like, this is beyond parody. That you care about Mother Earth and it’s about Mother Earth, and you’re going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that’s singlehandedly destroying the planet?”

Ratajkowski went on to ask: “Look at the state of the world. Think about how many resources went into putting these women into space… For what? What was the marketing there?” She concluded her rant by saying how “disgusted” she was.
