3 Doors Down Singer Brad Arnold Reveals Stage 4 Cancer Diagnosis

The artist said that he is battling kidney cancer

3 Doors Down frontman Brad Arnold has revealed that he has been diagnosed with stage four clear cell renal cell carcinoma, a type of kidney cancer.

Arnold shared the news in an Instagram video on Wednesday. “I hope you’re having a great day today. I’ve got some not-so-good news for you today,” he began, sharing that he had been sick a couple of weeks ago and decided to get checked at a hospital. He said that he received the diagnosis that he had stage four clear cell renal cell carcinoma that had metastasized into his lung.

“But you know what? We serve a mighty God, and he can overcome anything. So I have no fear,” he continued. “I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all.” The singer said that the band would have to cancel their tour this summer, before asking fans to to “lift me up in prayer every chance you get” and encouraging them to listen to 3 Doors Down’s 2008 song, “It’s Not My Time.”

In an accompanying caption, he wrote that he believed the track “is really my song,” saying, “This’ll be a battle so we need our prayers warriors!”

Arnold formed 3 Doors Down with longtime lead guitarist Matt Roberts, who died August 2016, and bassist Todd Harrell in 1996 in Escatawpa, Mississippi. Four years later, the band’s song “Kryptonite” reached Number Three on the Billboard Hot 100. It would be the first in a string of Hot 100-reaching singles, including “Be Like That,” “Here Without You,” and “When I’m Gone.”

Following 2002’s multiplatinum Away from the Sun, the band topped the Billboard 200 twice following the release of 2005’s Seventeen Days and 2008’s 3 Doors Down
