The concert took place last night (February 14) in celebration of SNL‘s 50th anniversary, with SNL alumnus Jimmy Fallon on hosting duties and Lorne Michaels and Mark Ronson as the show’s executive producers.

Having been previously announced as a performer alongside the likes of the Backstreet Boys, Bad Bunny, Brandi Carlile, Chris Martin, Jack White and Miley Cyrus, many fans expected Gaga to perform recent hit ‘Abracadabra‘, one of three singles recently shared from her forthcoming record ‘Mayhem’.

Instead, she kicked things off alongside Brooklyn 99 star Samberg, who joined her wearing a wig and a cowboy hat as he attempted Bradley Cooper’s vocals in a cover of A Star Is Born’s ‘Shallow’.

The ‘Disease’ singer put a stop to his attempt and said: “I gotta stop you, because it’s bad,” before recommending they do something “more in [his] vocal range.”

“There is one song, but Justin [Timberlake’s] not here to do his parts,” Samberg offered, which Gaga met by saying:  “Andy, don’t be a bitch. I’ll do it with you,” before the duo launched into the Lonely Island classic, ‘Dick in a Box’, which made its debut during SNL‘s 2006 Christmas episode with Timberlake.

They were then joined by Bad Bunny, T-Pain, Chris Parnell, Eddie Vedder, and former Lonely Island member Jorma Taccone for a mashup of ‘Motherlove’, ‘Lazy Sunday’, ‘I’m On a Boat’, ‘Jack Sparrow’ and ‘Jizz in My Pants’.

Elsewhere, the night saw the surviving members of Nirvana – Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl and Pat Smear – reunite for the second time in two weeks, this time with Post Malone on vocals to perform ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’.

Miley Cyrus also appeared to play her Grammy-winning hit ‘Flowers’, in a viral performance that saw her give shout-outs to Paul Rudd, Adam Sandler and SNL creator Lorne Michaels.

Celebrations will continue on Sunday (February 16) with the SNL 50 Anniversary Special, for which Paul McCartney, Sabrina Carpenter, Paul Simon have already been announced as guests.

Among the other content planned and already rolled out for its 50th anniversary are the feature film Saturday Night, a Questlove-helmed documentary focusing on the programming’s music and more.
