Stormzy Has a Lot to Get Off His Chest in ‘Sorry Rach’ Freestyle

The rapper responds to recent criticism surrounding his collaboration with McDonald’s and questions the loyalty of his fans for turning against him in that moment

Stormzy unloads on his latest freestyle, “Sorry Rach,” a rapidly paced single that responds to recent criticism and attempts to set the record straight on any questioning of his character.

“I heard they wanna hang me out to dry for a nugget meal/The world might never love your way again but my mother will,” Stormy raps on the first verse of the track. In February, the rapper was embroiled in controversy over a collaboration he launched with McDonald’s. Around the time that the “Stormzy Meal” was announced, fans noticed that his past Instagram post calling out “a clear injustice in the world” in regard to Israel’s ongoing attacks on Palestine was no longer on his profile. McDonald’s has been a primary target in an organic boycott of companies perceived to support Israel since 2023.

“I didn’t archive the post where I came out in support of Palestine for any reason outside of me archiving loads of [Instagram] posts last year,” Stormzy said at the time. “In that post, I spoke about #FreePalestine, oppression and injustice and my stance on this has not changed … The brands I work with can’t tell me what to do and don’t tell me what to do otherwise I wouldn’t work with them. I do my own research on all brands I work with, gather my own information, form my own opinion and come to my own conclusion before doing business.”

Elsewhere on “Sorry Rach,” Stormzy delves into jet setting, his complicated relationships with women, and his views of betrayal. “Okay, you stab me in my back, you need a better knife,” he says. “I’m so lit, you think that I’ve been set alight/I told the boys I think I met my wife/Baby, if you had my baby, then you’re set for life.”

“Sorry Rach” is the second song Stormzy has released this week. He also shared “Hold Me Down,” a more stripped-back record, as a chaser to the heated freestyle. “Honest mistake/I need to grow up, but what does it take?/I fuck it all up and I fall on my face/I’ll make one more song and I’ll call it a day/You search for the feeling too/You stare at the ceiling too/Aight cool, well, I feel it too,” he raps. “Sometimes I wonder how it all went so wrong/I wonder what they’ll say when I’m gone/Tired, but I’ll make one more song/Let it all out, let it all out, let it all out.”
