Snow Patrol Loses Two Longtime Members Amid Backstage Tension: Report

After Snow Patrol parted ways with two members last week, an apparent behind-the-scenes rift has surfaced online. People reports that in social media posts, Mariane Quinn, the wife of the band’s now-former drummer Jonny, pointed to discord as her husband and bassist Paul “Pablo” Wilson left the band. Quinn had been a member of the group since 1997, while Wilson joined in 2005. The official line on their departure, in a Snow Patrol Instagram post, was that they simply “decided to leave.”

In the comments of an Instagram post that frontman Gary Lightbody wrote paying tribute to Quinn, Mariane dissented with the general feel-good vibe of the post. “It’s been a fucker,” she wrote, according to People. “Fucked by you know who.”

Rolling Stone could not find the specific comment. One comment, though, by @Mariane_Quinn said, “It’s bitter sweet, but exciting things ahead as you know!” Her account is currently private.

Belfast Telegraph refers to another one of Mariane’s posts, which is not public, in which she reportedly thanked only Lightbody and lead guitarist Nathan Connolly, leaving out keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist Johnny McDaid.

“I’m so incredibly proud of my husband and it’s with very mixed feelings Jonny is announcing his departure from the band,” she wrote, according to the Telegraph. “Sad the reason for leaving is not the best, but excited about what lies ahead.” She allegedly also posted a photo of fans commenting on a website of people speaking ill of McDaid. A rep for Snow Patrol did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone’s request for comment.

In Lightbody’s initial post, he said that Snow Patrol “will continue, despite the recent departures. “There will be a new album next year,” he wrote, “but more news of that will come at an appropriate time, for now we want to pay homage and give gratitude for all Jonny and Pablo have given us and shared with us these past decades.”
