Roddy Ricch must pay $2,125 in sanctions and answer questions under oath in an expedited deposition linked to a car crash lawsuit that’s set to go on trial next month, a judge ruled Monday.
The Grammy-winning rapper allegedly was behind the wheel of a Dodge Charger in June 2019 when the muscle car slammed into the rear of another man’s vehicle on a ramp of the 110 freeway in Los Angeles.
The driver of the other car, Chu Shin Kim, claims he suffered “significant injuries.” He sued the musician for negligence in 2020. The case is set to go on trial Dec. 7.
Ricch, known for his award-winning track “Racks in the Middle” and the Billboard Hot 100 Number One single “The Box,” previously agreed to be deposed, but only after both sides agreed to a protective order that would bar “disclosure and dissemination” of his testimony to third parties, especially “print and online media organizations and tabloids,” court filings reveal.
In her ruling Monday, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Lisa Jaskol said Ricch, whose legal name is Rodrick Wayne Moore Jr., failed to appear for three scheduled depositions in February, April, and June without filing timely objections. She also noted the plaintiff’s lawyer agreed to sign a protective order drafted by Ricch’s side, but the rapper’s camp failed to send the paperwork.
The plaintiff is suing for damages including medical expenses, loss of property, and loss of past and present earnings.

“Plaintiff was hurt and injured in his health, strength, and activity, sustaining injury to his nervous system and person, all of which injuries have caused, and continue to cause, plaintiff great mental, physical, emotional, and nervous pain, suffering, and distress,” the complaint states.
Ricch released a video for his track “Boom Boom Room” in January 2020 that featured a scene where he crawls out of a rollover car crash with blood on his face.
