Porno for Pyros Swim With Dolphins on ‘Agua,’ First New Song in 26 Years

Reunited Perry Farrell-led outfit calls first new song since 1997 “an ode to the sea and all its beautiful creatures”

A day after Porno for Pyros rescheduled their first tour in 25 years, the reunited Perry Farrell-led band has released “Agua,” their first new song in 26 years.

The track, which the band worked on while rehearsing for their postponed reunion tour (now a farewell tour), was inspired by encounters the group had with dolphins while surfing in the Nineties, calling “Agua” “an ode to the sea and all its beautiful creatures.”

As such, Porno for Pyros have teamed with the Surfrider Foundation, which advocates for protecting the oceans, for the “Agua” release. “The people who live here on the West Coast have a beautiful love and passion for the Pacific Ocean,” Farrell said in a statement.

“The ocean doesn’t look right, doesn’t feel right, doesn’t surf right. You go and swim in it, and you get the creeps. The sunsets are different. We are really, really screwing it up. We have to do something about it. I wanted to bring attention to it through the best megaphone that I know, which is music.”

“Agua” marks the first new Porno for Pyros song since their “Hard Charger” appeared on the soundtrack to Howard Stern’s Private Parts. It’s also the first preview of the band’s third album and long-awaited follow-up to 1996’s Good God’s Urge.

Porno for Pyros — featuring Jane’s Addiction’s Farrell and drummer Stephen Perkins along with guitarist Peter DiStefano and bassist Martyn LeNoble — will embark on their farewell tour starting in February 2024.
