‘Minecraft’ players can now listen to their favourite songs while playing

Minecraft players will finally be able to listen to their favourite songs while playing, thanks to a new mod.

As it stands, Minecraft players can either listen to the in-game soundtrack or play music outside of the crafting game. However, a new partnership between STYNGR, which licenses the music of major labels to video games, and popular mod Lunar Client is set to bring official radio stations to the world of Minecraft.

“Exclusively with Lunar Client, players can choose from a series of regularly updated in-game radio stations and hear tracks from major labels. The service is currently live, and users simply have to purchase a Lunar FM Premium subscription to access all the radio stations with ad-free listening, unlimited skips, and an exclusive in-game headset cosmetic that displays music notes when equipped,” reads a press release. Artists will also benefit from a revenue share on every subscription purchased within Lunar Client.

Radio stations include Rock Out!, Pop and R&B/Rap while one inspired by the music of Netflix’s Arcane is also currently available. A complete playlist of tracks has yet to be confirmed but the likes of Glass Animals, Taylor Swift and Arctic Monkeys all feature.

There are plans for an ad-supported version which will allow all Minecraft players to use the service without a subscription. 2025 will also see the introduction of “group listening, opening up the potential for artists to host listening parties for new music releases in Minecraft through creator-made experiences.”

“We know the power that licensed music brings to a game,” said STYNGR co-sounder Alex Tarrand. “It makes the user experience stronger and can materially move engagement and retention. Whether it’s the infectious soundtrack of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater or the atmospheric power in Fallout, licensed music elevates the gameplay experience. STYNGR’s exclusive partnership with Lunar is seamlessly bringing today’s top artists and major labels to Minecraft gamers.” Details on how to install Lunar Client can be found here.

In other news, Minecraft could be coming to a theme park near you after agreeing to a deal with Merlin, the company behind Legoland and Alton Towers, to create a number of physical world attractions.
