Miley Cyrus heckled at ‘Something Beautiful’ film screening by fans expecting a concert

Miley Cyrus has been heckled at a screening of her Something Beautiful film by fans who were expecting a concert.

On Friday (June 6), the singer appeared at a Q&A session after a premiere screening of the visual version of her latest album at the Tribeca Film Festival. The event was advertised as “a one-of-a-kind pop opera featuring thirteen original new songs from the ‘Something Beautiful’ album”.

During the post-screening conversation on stage, several fans began loudly complaining about the fact that Cyrus was not going to perform live, with social media clips showing one proclaiming: “We thought this was a concert! We paid $800!”

“Are you actually going to sing?” shouted another, while the event’s host attempted to calm the disruption by pointing out that the screening was a part of a film festival. Nevertheless, Cyrus assuaged the disappointed fans by singing an a cappella version of her 2009 hit ‘The Climb’.

The film will be screened across North America on June 12 before coming to the UK and the rest of the world on June 27. Tickets are on sale now and you can find yours here.

Cyrus produced the film with XYZ Films and Panos Cosmatos in collaboration with Sony Music Vision, Columbia Records and Live Nation and directed it alongside Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter.

She has said about the release: “Something Beautiful is my dream project come true – fashion, film, and original music coexisting in harmony. My co-creators are all geniuses in their own right: from the masters of sound, Shawn Everett and Alan Meyerson, to one of cinema’s most unique directors, Panos Cosmatos serving as a producer. Each collaborator has used their expertise to make this fantasy a reality.”

In NME’s four-star review of the ‘Something Beautiful’ album, Nick Levine wrote: “Featuring 13 tracks that unfurl over 53 minutes, ‘Something Beautiful’ is sprawling and apparently unperturbed by contemporary chart trends.

“It’s difficult to think of a Spotify playlist that might accommodate ‘Reborn’, which sounds a bit like an Andrew Lloyd Webber show tune written on mild hallucinogens. So while ‘Something Beautiful’ probably isn’t Cyrus’s most hit-packed album, it does feel like a fully realised artistic statement. This post-genre pop star has pulled off another pretty big swing.”

In other news, the singer has told fans that her next LP will be “extremely experimental”. Meanwhile, fans have been speculating that Cyrus makes a dig at Dua Lipa on her new track ‘Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved’.
