Hear Kacey Musgraves Cover Bob Marley’s ‘Three Little Birds’ for ‘One Love’ Soundtrack

Other musicians on the soundtrack include Daniel Caesar, Wizkid, Leon Bridges, and Jessie Reyez

Kacey Musgraves has released an intimate, acoustic cover of “Three Little Birds,” a reggae song originally written and recorded by Bob Marley and the Wailers in 1977. The track will appear on the soundtrack to forthcoming Marley biopic Bob Marley: One Love, in theaters Feb. 14.

Bob Marley: One Love (Music Inspired by the Film), also out Feb. 14, is a seven-song EP featuring reinterpretations of Marley song by Musgraves, Daniel Caesar, Wizkid, Leon Bridges, Jessie Reyez, Bloody Civilian, and Skip Marley, Marley’s grandson. Notably, the Marley family had a hand in choosing and approving all selections for the EP, and all of the songs come off the musician’s 1977 LP Exodus.

“The mission is always to spread Daddy’s music to every corner of the Earth, and we were very thoughtful in handpicking these artists,” Cedella Marley said in a statement. “Having his songs rebirthed at the same time we get to show the world his story through this movie, is something that my family and I are extremely proud to be a part of.”

One Love stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as the legendary musician and Lashana Lynch as his wife Rita. The film was directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green.

When the first trailer for Bob Marley: One Love was released, Marley’s son Ziggy Marley shared a post on social media about the story of his father being told through this format. “Nothing happens before it’s time, and now is the time for the story of our father Bob Marley to be represented in a biopic theatrical release coming in 2024,” he wrote on Instagram. “You’ve heard the music, and you think you know the man, but do you really understand what he went through and what moments shaped him into the person he became.”
