Ed Sheeran previews guitar-heavy collaboration ‘Drive’ with John Mayer and Dave Grohl

A snippet of an upcoming collaboration between Ed Sheeran, John Mayer and Dave Grohl has been unveiled – check it out below.

The collaboration, titled ‘Drive’, is set to feature on the F1 film soundtrack, and will be released in full next month alongside the movie. The snippet was shared on social media via the F1 account, with Sheeran going on to re-post it with some context.

Sheeran wrote: “Sneak peek of the song I did for the F1 movie. Mayer on guitar, Grohl on drums. A lot of fun making this, coming out next month with the movie x”.

The snippet reveals a guitar-heavy rock tune with Grohl’s signature snappy and thumping percussion while Sheeran takes on vocal duties.

Joining Sheeran, Mayer and Grohl on the F1 soundtrack are Rosé, Burna Boy, Tate McRae, RAYE, Dom Dolla, Madison Beer, Sexyy Redd and more. The album, simply titled ‘F1 The Album’ is scheduled for release on June 27.

The F1 film is due for release on June 25 in the UK, with releases in the US and Canada on June 27. It is directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Brad Pitt and Lewis Hamilton. Pitt stars as former F1 driver Sonny Hayes, who returns to the sport to partner rookie team mate Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), at the fictional APXGP team.

Sheeran recently announced that he is due to drop his new album ‘Play’ on September 12. Visit here to pre-order. The album has so far been previewed by two songs: the nostalgic ‘Old Phone’ and the intriguing ‘Azizam’.

The ‘Shape Of You’ singer has also shared information about other upcoming singles to. Recently he shared that a new track called ‘Sapphire’ will be released in the coming months, and he added that he plans to share new music every two or three weeks.

As for live shows, Sheeran is due to play a run of European shows from May to September 2025 before finishing up the year with performances in Bhutan, India, Qatar and Bahrain. Visit here for tickets.

Meanwhile, Foo Fighters have announced their first – and currently only – show of 2025, as they headline day two of the F1 Singapore Grand Prix alongside G-Dragon and Elton John this October.
