Chappell Roan Opens Up to Crowd: ‘My Career is Going Really Fast and It’s Hard to Keep Up’

The singer took a moment to tell the crowd why she was feeling “a little off” during a show in Raleigh, North Carolina

When performing at the Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Wednesday night Chappell Roan paused the show to open up to those in attendance.

Roan’s rapidly growing fanbase and deliriously catchy pop songs have helped skyrocket her career in the past few months. The star became emotional when addressing the sudden fame with her audience. “I just want to be honest with the crowd. I feel a little off today, because I think my career is going really fast and it’s hard to keep up,” she said, adding “I’m just being honest, I’m having a hard time today.”

“I’m not trying to give you a lesser show,” the rising star said before continuing with the concert. “Thank you for understanding. This is all I’ve ever wanted.”

Last weekend, Roan delivered one of the most memorable sets during her Governors Ball performance in New York City. Dressed as a the Statue of Liberty, the singer told those at the festival that she rejected an offer to perform at the White House for a Pride month event. She said her next song, “My Kink Is Karma,” was “a response to the White House, who asked me to perform for Pride.” She continued, “We want liberty, justice, and freedom for all. When you do that, that’s when I’ll come.”

Pop’s “Midwest Princess” joined  Olivia Rodrigo on her Guts tour, playing her final show as an opener back in April. That month, Roan appeared to launch a new era of music and declared her since-released single, “Good Luck, Babe,” was the first song of her “next chapter.”

The singer is set to perform at Kentuckiana Pride at the Big Four Lawn on June 15.
