Ariana Grande Reveals Acting, and Not Pop Music, Will Be Her Focus ‘the Next 10 Years’

“I’m always going to do pop stuff, I pinky promise, but I don’t think doing it at the rate that I’ve been doing for the past 10 years,” singer/actress tells Las Culturistas podcast

Ariana Grande revealed in a new interview that the next decade of her life might be focused on acting, with her pop music career taking a backseat.

The singer and Wicked star visited the Las Culturistas podcast Wednesday, where she revealed that co-starring in the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical has rekindled her love of acting.

“I’m going to say something so scary, it’s going to scare the absolute shit out of my fans and everyone,” Grande warned. “I love them, and they will deal, and we will be here forever. I’m always going to make music. I’m always going to go on stage. I’m always going to do pop stuff, I pinky promise, but I don’t think doing it at the rate that I’ve been doing for the past 10 years is where I see the next 10 years.”

She continued, “I think I love acting; I love musical theater. Reconnecting with this part of myself…I love comedy, and it heals me to do that — finding roles to use these parts of myself.”

Prior to her music career, Grande appeared on Broadway (in 13) and starred in the Nickelodeon series Victorious and Sam & Cat. However, following the release of her debut LP Yours Truly in 2013, the singer reeled off a run of six albums over a seven-year span, a pace that made balancing an acting career impossible. During that time, Grande only had one feature-film role, playing herself in the apocalypse comedy Don’t Look Up.

Earlier this year, Grande released Eternal Sunshine, her first album since 2020’s Positions; the four-year gap between LPs more than doubled the singer’s previous breaks between albums. Expect those hiatuses to be the norm going forward.
