Nick Cave announces North American ‘Conversations’ tour for 2027

Nick Cave has announced a North American tour for 2027 that will see him answer questions from fans and perform stripped-back versions of his songs on the piano.

The singer-songwriter is reviving his ‘Conversations With Nick Cave: An Evening Of Talk And Music’ series, which will begin in Vancouver on April 9 and conclude in New Orleans on May 21.

The intimate shows will feature Cave fielding unvetted questions from the audience on any subject, interspersed with solo piano performances of songs from throughout his career.

The format was first introduced in 2018 and subsequently expanded into a wider tour in 2019, when Cave said he wanted to establish a more direct and personal connection with his fans.

Announcing the new dates, he reflected on how the original shows had helped him process his grief following the death of his son Arthur in 2015.

He described the unconventional format as “a strange, almost desperate idea”, but said that the evenings had become “deeply healing” for him.

Cave explained that his regular correspondence with fans through The Red Hand Files, which launched in 2018, had further encouraged him to return to the format.

Reflecting on how the country has changed in the intervening years, Cave said he was looking forward to returning with his piano, playing songs and answering questions.

“What could possibly go wrong?” he joked.

During the original North American tour in October 2019, NME attended a show in Nashville, where Cave answered questions about grief, religion, songwriting and his career alongside stripped-back piano performances.

In 2022, he explained how performing live had become part of his grieving process, describing the mutual support between himself and fans as a source of strength.

He also spoke to NME in 2023 about the importance of maintaining open conversations with people whose perspectives differed from his own.

Meanwhile, Cave has had a busy year with The Bad Seeds, touring their acclaimed 2024 album ‘Wild God’.

In July, the band played a huge homecoming show at Brighton’s Preston Park, where Kylie Minogue joined them for a performance of their 1995 collaboration ‘Where The Wild Roses Grow’. The concert attracted nearly 50,000 people and was reportedly the largest ticketed event in Brighton’s history.

Earlier in May, Cave also revealed that The Bad Seeds had been working together in the studio, with the possibility of recording a follow-up to ‘Wild God’.

Tickets for the new ‘Conversations’ tour go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday (November 13) here. A presale begins at 10am local time on Wednesday (November 11) and runs until 10pm on Thursday (November 12). Fans can register for presale access here.
