Tegan and Sara are getting into the holiday spirit with not one, but two Christmas-themed songs, “I Love Christmas” and “A December to Remember.”
In the video for “I Love Christmas” the Quin sisters acknowledge not everyone is into the holiday, but they have enough cheer to make up for those who aren’t feeling it. “I love Christmas, even if you don’t/I can love it for us, even if you won’t,” they sing on the chorus. “I love the music and the weather and the presents, too/I know you hate this time of year, it makes you blue/Let me love it for you.”
The adoration for the season is not mere talk. “I’m a Christmas fanatic. I have three Christmas trees,” she says. “I watch a Christmas movie every single day in December and listen exclusively to Christmas music.” Tegan said in a statement. “Like most sane people, I actually prefer the anticipation of Christmas to Christmas itself. By Christmas afternoon, I’m usually pretty depressed.”
For “A December to Remember,” Tegan and Sara take turns grabbing stuff from a refrigerator as they sing about wrapping gifts and watching Home Alone together, and making other joyful memories. “You work to keep my spirits bright/You know that this is the time of the year I love, so you pull out all the stops and give me a December to remember with 25 reasons to cheer” goes the chorus. The visual culminates with the sisters clad in Christmas sweaters toasting champagne.
The songs hailed from a project with Kate Cooper penned around the time of Tegan and Sara’s 2024 graphic novel, Crush. After Tegan finished penning Merry Christmess, her first middle-grade novel that arrived in September, she said that she decided to revisit the songs.

Tegan acknowledges the time of year is not everyone’s favorite. “A lot of people think Christmas is a commercialized, capitalist pain in the ass, but I genuinely love the traditions, the nostalgia, and the excuse to spend time with people you love making new memories,” she said, but added: “These songs are for people who love Christmas, but also for people who don’t,” she adds. “As I sing in ‘I Love Christmas,’ even if you hate Christmas (these songs), I’m happy to love it for you.”
In September, they dropped new single “Our Year” featuring Lights and Felix Cartal, their first new material since 2022’s Crybaby. Next fall, they embark on a tour with Hilary Duff for select U.S. dates.
