Olivia Rodrigo has clarified both her stance on artificial intelligence and her relationship status after the two issues overlapped for the pop star this summer.
In her Wednesday (Oct. 7) cover story for The Hollywood Reporter, the singer-songwriter began by asserting that she “would never use AI in any of my music,” point blank period. “Absolutely no. Hard line on that,” she told the publication. “The closest I’d ever got is that once, me and [producer] Dan [Nigro] were like, ‘God, I wonder what ideas ChatGPT would have for an Olivia Rodrigo title.’”
The verdict? “They [were] all f–king awful,” Rodrigo said.
The technology is a hot-button topic across the music industry in 2026, as generative AI music companies such as Suno face countless lawsuits and complaints from artists claiming their models are trained on unlicensed music. That’s why some people took issue when photos of Rodrigo looking cozy with a man believed to be a private equity associate for AI investment firm Hg Capital surfaced in July.
“I’m single, I don’t have a boyfriend,” the Grammy winner emphasized to THR before sharing her thoughts on the discourse her personal life ignited over the summer. “To be stalked outside of your home and then these pictures are being used as evidence that you’re a bad person, it’s just the craziest thing. But I know who I am, and I know what my values are, and I try to just hold on to it at the end of the day. I wish that I could be 23 years old and experience life normally.”
“It’s so hard and kind of sad, especially because relationships are supposed to be something private,” she also told the publication. “I feel like every time I go on a casual date with a guy, there’s a picture of it on the internet, which feels really invasive. Sometimes you’re out with a guy who’s not your boyfriend, and suddenly the internet’s like, ‘They’re married, blah blah blah.’”
Rodrigo was previously in a two-year relationship with Louis Partridge, the assumed subject of the songs on her Billboard 200-topping third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. The project spawned Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single “Drop Dead” and pairs with the singer’s Unraveled Tour, which kicked off in September, about a month after Rodrigo’s inaugural Daisy Chain Fields charity festival.
