Queens Of The Stone Age have shared another new single, ‘Where The Goth Girls At?’. Listen below.
The song serves as the third preview of Josh Homme and co’s ninth studio album, ‘Perfecth’, which is released on October 30. It follows recent tracks ‘Insignificant Other’ and ‘Easy Street’.
‘Where The Goth Girls At?’ pairs minimalist riffs with an explosive chorus, amplified by some rich string and horn arrangements.
Homme drew inspiration for the nostalgic track from his youth in a Palm Desert suburb, and reflects on themes of teen romance and the desire to impress others.
“Watching the goth girls working the counter at JCPenney and giving goth makeovers to the old ladies, that’s when I knew the only place I want to be is where the goth girls at,” explained the frontman. “Teenage love, ain’t it grand?”
The chaotic and bizarre accompanying music video sees Queens reunite with ‘Easy Street’ video directors Christopher Gruse and Tony Wolski. It features appearances from comedian Steve Agee, dancer/artist Scarlett Kapella, and singer/actress Lou Lou Safran.
QOTSA members star in the visuals, too, as a copious amount of black ink takes over a deserted power plant. The titular goth girls command authority and self-assurance as they transform everyone they encounter into their ultimate form.
‘Perfecth’ follows on from QOTSA’s acclaimed 2023 album ‘In Times New Roman’. The new record’s title comes from the concept that “perfect” as a word has never been honest and doesn’t exist, so Homme created a more fitting word.
“Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be ‘perfecth’,” he said in a statement. “And that title is funny when you’re in a group, but it ain’t so funny when you’re alone.”
The album’s central theme was also inspired by Kintsugi (the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by filling its cracks with gold). ‘Perfecth’ contains nine songs, tackling different forms of love, and exploring “family, friends, and others both significant and insignificant”.
QOTSA are set to end their current stint supporting Foo Fighters on Saturday (September 26) in Las Vegas, after their appearance at Bourbon & Beyond 2026 tomorrow (Thursday September 24).
