Randy Travis Announces First Album of Original Music in 18 Years: ‘It Feels Like a Home Run’

Country Music Hall of Famer Randy Travis is set to release an album of never-before-heard music when his upcoming album, Same Old Way, drops on Nov. 13 via Warner Records Nashville, he announced Friday (Sept. 4).

The album is filled with all-new material that Travis recorded from 1986 to 2013, and marks his first album of original material in more than 18 years.

The same day as the album announcement, Travis released the set’s title track, which he wrote with his longtime producer and friend Kyle Lehning, marking the only song the two have written together, and the first time Lehning has a major songwriting credit.

“When life throws you a curveball, swing for the fences the ‘same old way’ and hope you knock it out of the park!” the musician said in a statement. “Team Travis helped me run the bases on this one, and it feels like a home run! It’s a joy and a blessing to be able to bring new music to my listeners — thank you all for still showing up for me.”

Travis has already released two singles from the upcoming album, “Fish On” and “I Don’t Care.” Lehning took recordings that had been locked away in the vault and assembled, remixed and remastered the recordings, with Travis’s input.

This year also marks four decades since Travis’s debut album, Storms of Life, which included the hits “On the Other Hand” and “Diggin’ Up Bones.” Later this year, Travis will conclude his More Life Tour, which visited 54 cities and 24 states.
